Plot
In 1905 Newport, Rhode Island, spirited socialite Ella Stewart Grafton dreams of using her wealth to establish a charitable foundation rather than entering an arranged marriage arranged by her father. After wishing on a Christmas comet for true love and a different life, she time-travels via her schooner to 2025 Newport. There she encounters local historian and former Coast Guard officer Nick McManny, who owns the same boat. As Ella adjusts to the modern world and falls for Nick, historical records and landmarks tied to her future achievements begin disappearing. With help from Nick's colleagues Christine and Francis, they race to return Ella to her era before her legacy, including the still-operating charity, is erased, all while navigating their growing romance and the comet's next appearance.
