Wokeness Analysis
Uncharted (2022) is a straightforward action-adventure film centered on treasure hunting, globe-trotting escapism, and high-stakes chases inspired by the popular video game series. The story follows young Nathan Drake, played by Tom Holland, teaming up with Mark Wahlberg's Victor Sullivan to pursue lost riches from the Magellan expedition while evading antagonists like Antonio Banderas's Santiago Moncada. Plot elements revolve around puzzles, fights, and brotherly bonds without any overt social or political agenda. Casting includes diverse actors such as Sophia Ali as Chloe Frazer and Tati Gabrielle as the mercenary Braddock, but these roles serve narrative functions like partnership and opposition rather than pushing identity-based themes. Reviews from various sources highlight the film's focus on fun action sequences, such as the helicopter-pulled pirate ship scene, and its light-hearted tone, with no mentions of forced representation or ideological messaging in plot summaries or critiques. Minor elements like international settings and a female supporting character feel organic to the adventure genre and do not interrupt the entertainment value. The film was even banned in some countries over a map detail unrelated to progressive causes, underscoring its apolitical nature. Overall, it prioritizes spectacle and character-driven thrills over commentary, aligning closely with traditional escapism in blockbuster cinema.
Plot
Street-smart Nathan Drake is recruited by seasoned treasure hunter Victor Sullivan to recover a fortune amassed by Ferdinand Magellan and lost 500 years ago by the House of Moncada. What starts as a heist job for the duo becomes a globe-trotting, white-knuckle race to reach the prize before the ruthless Moncada, who believes he and his family are the rightful heirs. If Nate and Sully can decipher the clues and solve one of the world's oldest mysteries, they stand to find billions in treasure and perhaps even Nate's long-lost brother, but only if they can learn to work together. The film blends puzzle-solving, aerial stunts, and fistfights across locations like Barcelona and the Philippines in a light adventure tone.
